A Christmas card designed by a two-year-old girl has been selected as a finalist in a national competition.

The picture, by Scarlett Riley, 2, who attends Appleton Day Nursery, Newark, features a cheerful Santa.

The competition is being run by the Mini Me Card Company, which creates art-based fundraising items for schools and nurseries.

Vicki Sutcliffe, from the nursery, said: “We think creativity is vital for helping children develop.

“We really enjoyed making our art, which was made into greetings cards and fundraising projects but had no idea we would get into the finals.

“The prizes are stars, named after the overall winners, and information about the sky at night, which will be really interesting for our children, so we are keeping our fingers crossed.”
