Tyson Fury's signed glove up for grabs for Liam Andrew appeal
A signed boxing glove worn by former world heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury will be a raffle prize at a fundraising event for Liam Andrew at The Atrium bar, Newark.
The glove has been donated by the fighter, who is on the comeback trail after more than 2½ years away from the ring with a bout against Sefer Seferi.
In November 2015, Fury defeated Wladimir Klitschko to take the WBA, IBF and WBO titles, which are now held by Anthony Joshua.
Fury’s wife, Paris, is a friend of Katrina Webster, who is helping her daughter, Shannon, to organise the event at The Atrium.
The glove is signed Tyson 2 Fast Fury.
Liam Andrew, of Beacon Heights, Newark, has a rare cancerous tumour called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). An appeal to raise £½m so that money could be available for any treatments that might help Liam is under way.
Katrina, who barely knew Liam’s family when she and Shannon set about organising the event, said: "Every time I see a picture of that boy, I could cry.
"I am a mother and to be told that your little boy could just have 12 months left, and he’s only five, cuts me.
"I just said: ‘What can I do?’
"Shannon had the idea of The Atrium and I never thought they would give us the whole place on a Saturday night, but they have. They have been wonderful.
"The response from everyone, all of the businesses, has been unbelievable — no one has said no.
"We just need to fill the place.
"Please come along and support us and make it a great night for a great cause.
"We have a DJ — so come and make a night of it."
All entry fees before 11.30pm will go directly to the Liam appeal.
Those attending are encouraged to wear yellow and gold and add some glitz, glitter and sparkle.
Photography on the night and glitter painting will add money to Liam’s fund.
Other raffle prizes include a privately-donated set of diamond earrings, as well as around 50 gifts from local companies, some worth hundreds of pounds.
The event is on Saturday, July 14, from 7pm.
Entry is £5 — the usual entrance price for The Atrium on a Saturday night.
Tickets are available from Katrina’s business, Little Blessings, Shannon’s business, the hair salon, Curl Up N Dye, both of which are on Lombard Street, Newark, or from Charlotte Ellwood or Lyndsey Cummings on Facebook.
They are also available on the door.
