Readers’ Letters: Unnecessary disruption caused by race

I asked at Newark Bus Station how the number three bus would be affected by the Tour of Britain cycle race and was told that town buses would be suspended between 1pm and 3pm. This worked well last year.
I left home at 12, an hour earlier than usual for my volunteering commitment at Newark Hospital.
On reaching the bus stop I was informed that buses were suspended from 11 am!
Why? Which car owning bigwig decided that?
Given the horrendous traffic problems in Newark, I would have thought that every effort would be made to develop a reliable bus service around the town - would that involve too much planning? — Miss P. J. Smith, Balderton.
