Reader’s letter: Unsuitable site for supermarket

I have read on your websiteabout a change at theHomebase DIY facility in Newark, which will be changing to a Sainsbury store.

This will not be a success and is not a suitable move.

Traffic on Northgate is currently a nightmare.

Go into any of thecarparks and after shopping trying to get out of a car park togo home or elsewhere you will be lucky if you do not have to wait up to 15 minutes.

The car parks are normally full during a typical day and the carpark at Homebase could not be much smaller, so how is the inevitableincrease in traffic going to cope.

I believe M&S have approached the council for traffic lights or a roundabout to be introduced to the jointentrance with B&Q but to no avail

With the growth, now and in the future, at Fernwood it will soon need a large supermarket nearby.

From lunchtimes on Fridays, London Road willbecome a slow, very slow, moving carpark.

The Greenies could / should have a word with someone regarding this very ungreen situation — BRIAN CLARK, Balderton.
