Up and coming Newark teenage musician set to perform at Newark Festival ahead of The Overtones

A teenage signer-songwriter has been chosen to perform at the Newark Festival this Sunday.

17 year-old Charlotte, from Newark will open for The Overtones at her home town festival in the historic surroundings of the Newark Castle grounds.

"I'm really excited. I've played to small crowds and rooms of people but never anything as big as this before." She said.

"I write my own stuff but play a lot of covers too because that's was people want to see. I'd best describe my genre as an indie, folk mix.

"The very first concert I ever attended was actually at the castle, so to be back all these years later as the one performing is special."

Charlottle began performing in 2019, but was forced to postpone her musical plans due to the coronavirus pandemic which hit the hospitality and entertainment industry hard.

The young musician has now been gigging regularly around Newark for about a year now, playing sets at The Navigation pub's open mic night most Thursdays.

She's also a regular at other venues in the area such as the Lord Nelson pub in Winthorpe and entertaining guests at private parties.

The teen was interested in music from a young age and has no plans to stop, saying: "I always liked singing and I started writing my own songs when I was about 12, then I felt I needed to learn to play and so picked up the guitar and piano, so now I'm entirely self taught.

"I'm working on some stuff at the moment so I've got new music brewing for the future.

"All I know is I just want to be doing this, singing and performing, for the rest of my life."

Charlotte will open for The Overtones this Sunday (August 28) as part of the Newark Festival line-up in the grounds of Newark Castle.
