Two keen runners have set up Bingham’s first running club for youngsters to meet demand.

Mrs Deena Tomlinson, of Mallard Close, and Mrs Cheryl Watson, of Skylark Close, held the first session of their six-week Ready, Steady, Go course on Thursday at Bingham Leisure Centre.

Youngsters were split into two age groups, five and six and seven and eight, and started with a gentle warm-up on the running track.

They then tried running in and out of cones and practising the start of a race before learning how to sprint.

Mrs Tomlinson said: “We are hoping to improve their times and their stamina, and do a bit of long distance running.”

The pair started a running club at Carnarvon Primary School, Bingham, and it proved very popular.

Mrs Tomlinson said: “There’s no athletics for this young age group. There is only contact sports like football.

“We feel children should have the opportunity and the feedback has been fantastic.”
