Plans for a large-scale development on the edge of Bingham have been refined after comments from the public.

A leaflet summarising the Crown Estate’s findings will be delivered to Bingham residents next week.

It includes details of using the A46 as a local road once the new dualled road is opened, and using a proposed site off Moor Lane for extra car parking.

Mr Nick Harper, head of asset management and development at The Crown Estate, said: “There has been some very helpful dialogue with a number of themes and points, which are helping to refine aspects of the proposals as well as indicating where we need to provide further clarification and information.

“I think everyone has welcomed the approach being taken and we look forward to the further views of residents and all those with an interest.”

The Crown Estate is proposing to build 1,000 homes, an employment space that could create up to 1,700 jobs, a health centre, a community centre, a school and a lake.

It received 482 feedback forms about the proposals.

Other issues raised during the consultations included the need to improve train services, concerns over community integration and provisions for education and sports.

Further consultation events will be held at the Buttercross on July 22, from 9am-noon, followed by a full exhibition at the Methodist Hall from 1pm-6.30pm the same day, and on July 23 from 10am-6pm.

It is hoped the first planning application could be submitted in August, relating to drainage and flood prevention measures that need to be taken before the development can begin.

At a Bingham Town Council meeting on Tuesday, Mr Francis Purdue-Horan said a meeting had been held with the Crown Estate the previous night in which councillors were updated on the work.

The council also announced that as part of the consultation exercise, they would be holding their own open days in which the public were free to attend and ask questions.

The council’s open days will be held at the Old Court House on July 16, 10am-4pm, July 17, 4-8pm, and July 18, 10am-1pm.
