Reddington Pub Company Ltd makes changes to licensing hours at the Anchor in Main Street, Gunthorpe due to noise concerns prior to hearing at Newark and Sherwood District Council

The owner of a pub in a Nottinghamshire village has made changes to its planned opening hours after concerns were raised.

The Reddington Pub Company Ltd is currently renovating the Anchor in Main Street, Gunthorpe, and is planning to obtain a licence to host live music and late-night refreshments once it opens.

It had initially been hoping to get a licence from Newark and Sherwood District Council allowing it to stay open until 2.30am Monday to Sunday, with live and recorded music and the sale of alcohol until 2am.

This could have been extended by a further hour on Bank Holidays.

However, two residents living opposite the pub raised “significant concerns”, and argued it was “wholly inappropriate for our small village setting”.

Sean Reddington, the applicant and director of the Reddington Pub Company, told the Local Democracy Reporting Service the licensable hours have since been changed.

Subject to the licence being granted, the new opening hours will be from 11am until 12.30am Sunday to Thursday, and 11am to 1.30am Friday and Saturday.

Permitted regulated entertainment will be up until 11.30pm Sunday to Thursday, and 12.30am Friday and Saturday, while late-night refreshment has been changed to the hours of 11pm to midnight, Sunday to Thursday, and 11pm to 1am Friday and Saturday.

“It has been a pub for as long as I can remember, so the re-opening shouldn’t come as a surprise,” he said.

“The Anchor is a normal pub that has event space for anything from special birthdays to weddings. We will follow all guidelines, as we do.”

Mr Reddington said he had hosted a question and answers session at the village hall, which he says was attended by around 80 people.

The changes were made following this meeting, he added.

The Reddington Pub Company, which also owns the Old Vol in Caythorpe and The Reindeer in Hoveringham, is also looking to reopen the nearby Tom Browns venue in Main Street.

The restaurant, next to the Anchor, was temporarily closed while it changed owners last year.

Newark and Sherwood District Council will consider the licensing application at a meeting on Tuesday, April 8, at Newark Beacon in Cafferata Way.
