A new sports pavilion is being built at Darwin Park, on Pinfold Lane, Elston

Residents in a village will be benefiting from a new £120,000 sports pavilion early next year.

The new building is being built at Darwin Park, on Pinfold Lane, Elston, a recreation park which provides an outside area for exercise and dog walking.

The development will allow the village’s home team — Elston United FC — to play official matches at home and can also be used for training matches.

Both teams will have access to showering and changing facilities on the premises.

The project is estimated to cost £120,000 as there are no utilities currently available and the football team uses the facilities at the Coronation Street playing field in Balderton.

The plans will include a 30-vehicle car park.

Elston’s Parish Council chairman, Bertie Pinchera said: “The addition of a sports pavilion will improve the facilities available.

“It will add another valuable asset to the village and hopefully attract young families with children to the village as an attractive place to live.”

Stuart Cross, the chairman of Elston United Football Club said: “This is really positive for us.

“The main benefit is that it gives us a home in our village and will allow villagers to come and support us at the games and promotes the village to visitors.

“After the game, we can use the local pub so in a certain way it is also helping promote the local businesses in our home.”

The pavilion is expected to be completed by the end of February 2025.

The council is aiming to have an open day for residents and an inaugural match on a date to be announced.
