Newark and Sherwood CVS runs six-week volunteering programme for 16 to 18 year olds
Newark and Sherwood CVS is currently running a six-week programme about volunteering for 16 to 18 year olds interested in finding out more about volunteering in their community.
Known as the Golden Thread Project, it covers everything from practical information about what volunteering offers, and choosing a volunteer role, to important legalities such as the rights and responsibilities of volunteers.
On Monday, the final day of Volunteers’ Week 2021, Newark and Sherwood volunteer co-ordinator, Louise Casey-Simpson, together with some of the current students, took to a market stall in Newark to tell people more about the project.
Explaining, she said: “The course is designed to raise the profile of volunteering across the district among young people aged 16 to 18.
“The pandemic highlighted the need for younger volunteers and those who did come forward found just how much enjoyment and satisfaction they got from giving their time.
“We hope that this course will allow young people to consider where they can be a part of their community, whilst at the same time gaining valuable life skills.”
