Thurgaton farming land on Bankwood House, Oxton Road, to be used as private garden following decision by Newark and Sherwood District Council
An application to change former agricultural land into a private garden in Thurgarton has been approved by the Newark and Sherwood District Council.
The decision was made by majority vote at the council’s planning committee meeting, going against officer recommendation.
The plans for Bankwood House, Oxton Road, include a two metre high boundary wall, a 0.93 metre kitchen garden wall, a potting shed and a greenhouse.
Roger Jackson, member for Dover Beck, said: “There’s not really any value of the agricultural land whatsoever.
“It just makes so much common sense that this be allowed to be added into the Bankwood House garden.
“Otherwise it would just be bit of no-man’s land which nobody could use.”
The committee went against the officer’s recommendation on the grounds of what was described to be pragmatism.
Thurgarton Parish Council had unanimously supported the application on two previous occasions when it went before them as a consultee.
