Walking to raise awareness of prostate cancer

A cancer survivor wants to raise awareness about prostate cancer by taking part in a sponsored long-distance walk.

Pat Douglas, 66, of Collingham, had his prostate removed ten years ago after being diagnosed with the illness at 56.

He said he had no symptoms, but went for a check-up after his father also had the same illness.

“I wanted to raise awareness because I was a fit and healthy 56 year-old,” he said.

He will be joined by 30 people for the walk from Lincoln City FC to Collingham FC on Sunday from 9.30am. The group will include Lincoln City players Mark Hone and Gavin Gordon. They are due to be waved off by club legend Grant Brown.

Collingham Velo Club will be cycling between the football clubs and will join the walkers at Collingham.

Afterwards there is expected to be a walking football tournament, and a match between

Lincoln City Ladies and Collingham Ladies.
