Water feature makes a splash at sanctuary

A kinetic water sculpture has become a permanent fixture at a swan sanctuary.

The moving water feature was donated to the sanctuary at Reg Taylor’s Garden Centre, Normanton, by Mr Pete Rogers, a retired engineer from New Holland, Lincolnshire.

He designed and built the complex sculpture especially for the centre.

It is an intricately-designed metal scuplture that requires the visitor to turn a handle slowly to fill troughs with water, which then turn metal discs strung across the lake in the centre of the sanctuary.

Mr Richard Taylor, the garden centre’s managing director, said the feature was a lovely idea, and he was grateful to Mr Rogers for creating something for visitors to enjoy.

He said: “So far people seem to have really loved it. We haven’t had only children playing on it either, grandparents have been having a go too.

“To erect the feature Pete had to use a boat, which he also decided to construct himself, so there really is a lot of love and attention gone into this whole project.”

The water feature, called Kinetic To The Island, is part of an ongoing sculpture exhibition at the sanctuary.

The summer exhibition includes more than 600 different scupltures in various mediums and sizes.

It will close on August 29, but the water sculpture will remain a permanent feature.
