Mr Watts said if anyone is going to beat the Conservatives, it will be him
This is the year that the Conservatives will be beaten by the Lib Dems, according to their Newark candidate.
Mr David Watts launched his campaign in Newark Market Place on Saturday.
He said a number of people came to the stand to hear what he had to say, and told him that they would be voting Lib Dem, even though they had never done so before.
“There is a different feel from the 2017 election,” said Mr Watts. “We have had a much more positive response because people realise that they’ve been lied to for so long about what Brexit will bring and that it will have a massive negative effect on the country.”
If elected, Mr Watts has promised to take action to help halt climate change and keep Britain in the European Union.
Mr Watts said he was feeling very pleased and happy about the progress of his campaign so far.
He said: “We have had some great feedback from people. A lot are not happy about having a December election ,which is understandable, but we have had a better response than ever before.”
Mr Watts believes this is the best chance the Lib Dems have to beat the Conservatives in an election.
“I’m here to win, not just to make up the numbers, and if anyone is going to beat Robert Jenrick and the Tories, it will be us.”
Mr Watts and Conservative candidate Mr Jenrick clashed on Newark Market Place on Saturday over Mr Jenrick's record in Parliament over climate change.
