We asked Artificial Intelligence to create representations of landmarks and areas in Newark, Nottinghamshire, England
With artificial intelligence being one of the technological buzzwords of the moment, we decided to ask it to create images of some of the well-known areas and landmarks of the town.
Several different areas and landmarks around Newark were input to see what the programme would create.
The parameters we set were that the image must be realistic looking, the rest of it we left to the technology's creative juices.
We didn't want flying cars or dragons eating ice cream.
The images for this story were created on the Bing platform, but we have also previously used other platforms including Chat GPT.
The programme delivered on average, two to four images.
We picked the most realistic options out of the images received.
It is important to note that if we ran the algorithm several times we would have undoubtedly received different results.
However, this experimental story purely aimed to show what the technology was capable of the first time around.
The programme did seem to deliver different images on alternate timelines from the Victorian age to more contemporary settings.
As there are quite a few Newark's around the world, we clarified the process by telling the system details on our specific town.
Artificial Intelligence is capable of rendering images in black and white, colour, and in different artistic mediums.
For example, we could have asked it to "paint the town of Newark in an impressionist style", for this exercise though we wanted it to create what we hoped would be a somewhat accurate presentation of the place requested.
Do you think the artistic representation of Artificial Intelligence was highly accurate or do you think it leaves a lot to be desired?
We plan on doing other similar articles on surrounding areas, sports teams, landmarks, etc.
