Nottinghamshire man among the wealthiest people in the East Midlands, according to The Sunday Times Rich List





A Nottinghamshire businessman has been named the fourth richest person in the East Midlands according to The Sunday Times Rich List.

Published online today at thesundaytimes.co.uk/richlist and in the print edition of the newspaper on Sunday (May 22), the 68-page special reveals the wealth of the 250 richest people and families.

Nottinghamshire’s Tony Langley, 67, has added £506m to his wealth with the success of his engineering operation, Langley Holdings, based at Retford.

He is now the fourth billionaire in the East Midlands, worth £1.34bn.

Topping the East Midlands is Mike Ashley, 57, the former owner of Newcastle United who sold the football club in October for £305m.

He has seen his personal fortune rise by £277m in the past year.

Now worth £2.995bn, making him the 59th wealthiest person in the UK, Ashley owns 58.44% of Frasers Group.

Derbyshire-born John Bloor, 78, added £804m to his wealth in the past year thanks to the success of his £2bn housebuilding and Triumph motorcycle businesses.

Worth £2.079bn, Bloor is the 85th richest person in the UK.

Leicester-born Gypsy Alfie Best, 52, is a newcomer in the East Midlands Rich List, with a £700m family fortune.

Best founded Essex-based Wyldecrest Parks in 2001. It is now Europe’s largest park home operator.

There are 177 billionaires in the UK recorded this year in The Times' 34th annual edition, up six from 2021, a year-on-year increase that is also a record.

The combined wealth of the UK billionaires is £653.122bn, up £55.853bn, or 9.4%, on the total wealth of the billionaires in last year’s Rich List.
