Where you can sign books of condolence for Queen Elizabeth II, including Newark, Southwell, Ollerton, Bingham, Rushcliffe and South Kesteven





All the details about where and when the public can sign books of condolence across the Advertiser area.

People, no matter where they are, may prefer to sign the Palace electronic book of condolence, which is available: www.royal.uk/books-condolence

However, for anyone who physically wants to put pen to paper in personal tribute, churches and local authorities have opened books of condolence to allow the public to pay their respects to our late Monarch and the Royal Family during the period of national mourning.

The period of national mourning will end after the state funeral of our sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II, on Monday September 19.

Newark:

In Newark, physical books of condolence can found found in several locations.

Newark and Sherwood District Council's book of condolence is located in Castle House reception and will be open for people to sign from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

An additional book of condolence is available in Newark Parish Church, which can be signed from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 3pm, with the exception of Wednesday September 14 where it will be available, 9am to 7pm, and Sunday September 18 where it can be signed during and after church services.

Those wishing to leave floral tributes are asked to do so in the area around the War Memorial adjacent to Appletongate at the rear of the church.

In line with the wishes of the Queen herself, the district council asks that floral tributes be left with no plastic wrappers to allow for ease of composting once the flowers are collected.

Southwell:

Members of the public wishing to leave messages can sign one of two books of condolence in the town.

These will be placed in Southwell Minster and in the town council offices at the Burgage.

The books will be available for signing every day from 8.30am to 7.30pm at Southwell Minster and Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm, Saturday between 9am and 12pm in Southwell Town Council's committee room until the day after the state funeral.

"We invite you to sign the book of condolence, light a candle, and spend some time in private prayer and reflection as we remember Her Majesty The Queen," a statement read.

Floral tributes can be placed at the west door of Southwell Minster.

Bingham:

A book of condolence has been opened in Bingham for residents to pay tribute.

The book is open at Bingham Town Council's office at the Old Court House, from 9am to 1pm, Monday to Friday.

Flowers tributes can also be placed in front of the Old Court House.

Ollerton and Boughton:

Books of condolence will be available for people to sign at both St Giles' Church and St Paulinus' Church, open 9.30am to 1.30pm.

The churches were opened to people looking for a quiet place to reflect on the death of The Queen.

Rushcliffe:

Rushcliffe Borough Council has outlined arrangements for residents to sign books of condolence and lay flowers if they wish.

Residents can also now sign a book at Rushcliffe Arena, every day from 9am to 5pm until further notice.

Another book is open at Rushcliffe Customer Service Centre at the following times; Monday September 12, 8.30am to 5pm; Thursday September 15, 8.30am to 5pm; Friday September 16, 8.30am to 4.30pm and Saturday September 17, 9am to 5pm.

Flowers can be laid on the Croquet Lawn of Central Avenue, West Bridgford.

South Kesteven:

Books of condolence were opened at towns across the South Kesteven District Council district.

In Grantham they are located in the Mayor’s Parlour and St Wulfram’s Church and will be open from 9am to 6pm until the funeral.

Flowers can be laid at St Peter’s Hill, Grantham.
