Newark Advertiser reader asks, why allow flood plain development?

What has happened to Newark and Sherwood District Council’s planning department?

Many years ago they used to not build houses on the River Trent flood plain or develop it with increased surface run off.

I remember when planners went up and down the Trent with a clipboard and noted down the floodplain area and a line was drawn on developing floodplain sites.

If this was done on a regular bases these two rivers would not flood surrounding homes. — B. BLYTH, via email.
