Reader's letter: Why lights?

I recently had to take my car to a garage because of a problem. On Boundary Road there were traffic lights at either end of a line of barriers placed across the front of the old fire station plot.

Why? There was no sign of any activity either on the site or the pavement/road across this said piece of land.

Is it a deliberate attempt to disrupt traffic flow? ­—BRIAN CLARK, Hayside Avenue, Balderton.
