The Newark Advertiser found out if people will be celebrating King Charles’ coronation and their plans for it

Ahead of the King’s coronation, the Advertiser went into Newark to find out people’s plans to celebrate the coronation - or not.

Several events will be taking place around town and the district this weekend to celebrate King Charles III coronation.

From public events to more intimate at home in front of the television, people’s celebrations vary, including those who consider it just a normal day.

Kevin Pevler said: “I live in Laxton and we have events happening the whole weekend. On Saturday at the local pub they have a big get together, vintage tractors and cars and bouncy castles for the children.

“Sunday there will be a street party outside the village hall and on Monday they are doing a litter pick around the village.”

John Priestley said: “I could be coming into town to watch it on the big screen with everybody else, but I have too much work to do in the garden.”

The coronation will be broadcast on most television channels and social media.

I will be at home, I’m going to have a small tea party with my family. We are all getting dressed up and having tea,” said Miss Lavin.

Jennifer Allen said: “I will be watching it on the telly! I would like to see it and I think Charles will be a good King.”

From big screens, to street parties and a mandatory stop at the local pub, tomorrow, May 6 is a day where part of the country or even the world will stop to watch an historic event.

Will you be celebrating the coronation, if so, how?

Tomorrow, at 5pm a part two of coronation voxpop’s special edition will be out on the Advertiser website and social media with people in town answering the question – “Is the monarchy still relevant in the country?”
