Newark & District Double Board Darts League axes winter season as lockdown continues

The 2020-21 darts winter season has officially been cancelled.

Simon Cobb, secretary of the Newark & District Double Board Darts League, said the decision to axe the winter season was made due to little chance of change to the current lockdown rules.

“As we are now over half-way through what would normally have been the 2020/2021 winter season and we are still engaged in a lockdown, which we suspect has still some time to run, the committee has agreed that we have no option but to officially cancel the 2020/2021 winter season,” Cobb said.

“The situation will be reviewed in the spring or when social-distancing measures are lifted - whichever is the sooner.

“We hope that it may be possible to run a summer league, but for this to happen we need social-distancing measures to be lifted, venues to be re-opened and for players to be able to compete again with confidence that it is safe to do so.

“Our plan when we do re-start is still to complete the unfinished 2019/2020 winter season which was postponed in March last year.

“Thanks for your continued support, keep safe and hopefully 2021 will see us return back the oche.”
