Workers quizzed on travel
Businesses in Bingham have agreed to take part in a survey to try to identify the causes of the town’s parking and congestion problems.
The survey is part of the Smarter Choices Town Project, run by Nottinghamshire County Council, which is encouraging commuters to use greener forms of transport.
Bingham is the first town in the county to become involved in the project.
Mr Andrew Barnes, the council’s travel plan officer, said the project was still in its early stages.
He said members of Bingham Business Club were prepared to survey their staff about their travel to work arrangements.
“The observations that businesses make will be a starting point. There are staff who live in Bingham who still drive. They are the target people,” said Mr Barnes.
Mr Barnes said cycling or car sharing were options open to commuters, but until the results of the survey were known, they would not know how best to tackle the problem of congestion.
The survey will be distributed next month and the project hopes to have the results by mid-July so they can start working towards a greener Bingham.
