Working well
The 100 Apprenticeships campaign is going great guns in Newark and Sherwood. In just over three months since the campaign was launched, more than 70 apprenticeships have been pledged.
That’s a tremendous show of support from the local business community.
The district council is working on the project with the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and other partners.
The NAS is in no doubt about the benefits of apprenticeships.
It says: “Apprenticeships bring considerable value to organisations, employers, individuals and the economy.
“Businesses across the country are increasingly realising the enormous benefits that apprenticeships create, not only in terms of developing a highly-skilled workforce but also by boosting productivity and staff retention.”
Apprenticeships allow employers to train and develop staff as they want to, providing them with the skills and qualities they need.
Gusto Construction, of Collingham, is among the companies that have signed up to the local scheme.
“For the young people involved there is a high probability that they will be offered employment on satisfactory completion of their apprenticeship,” said the company.
Free advice and guidance is available to all employers taking on apprentices through the campaign.
The 100 target is tantalisingly close. Can your company help with the final push?
