Environment Agency issues amber flood alert for River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough, and Met Office issues yellow weather warning of rain

A yellow weather warning has been issued by the Met Office again today (Monday), and a flood alert is in place in the north of the Newark area.

The warning means that heavy rain may result in some disruption during the day, with some communities possibly cut off by flooded roads, and spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.

The Environment Agency has also issued an amber flood alert for River Trent from Cromwell Weir to Gainsborough, as river levels are rising at the Torksey river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall.

Flooding of roads and farmland is possible from 10.45am today, with areas most at risk named as Church Laneham to Rampton Road, including The Flood Road, A156, Dunham Road and Gainsborough Road.

Areas around Lowdham and Rolleston are also showing as possible areas for flooding.

Further heavy rainfall is forecast over the next 48 hours, and river levels are set to remain high until Wednesday (September 25).

The Environment Agency is “closely monitoring the situation”.

“Please avoid using low-lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low-lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded,” a spokesman said.
