Children bake sweet treats in support of the young homeless at Newark Emmaus Trust

Youngsters have baked cakes to show their support for the young homeless at Newark Emmaus Trust.

The trust’s senior project worker, Louise Rumble, met siblings Grace, 11, Darcy, 8, and Dexter, 6, and their cousin Robyn, who worked together to run the sale from their grandmother’s caravan.

The children were playing at shops in the caravan when they came up with the idea.

They made leaflets, which they delivered to their neighbours, and put up posters.

Aware of the current situation and the precautions they needed to take, they asked customers to wear masks and observe social distancing.

They chose Newark Emmaus Trust and Water Aid to benefit from the £55 proceeds.

Grace also made thank you cards, which were hand-delivered to those who supported the pop-up cake shop.

Nicola Burley, the chief executive officer at Newark Emmaus Trust, said: ‘We would like to say a huge thank you to Robyn, Grace, Darcy and Dexter for all their hard work and efforts and for choosing us to be one of their charities.

“Their thoughtfulness is an example to us all. Their parents must be very proud of them.”

The Newark Emmaus Trust helps homeless young people with accommodation, training, and other support.
