A project spearheaded by the Salvation Army to employ a youth worker to be involved with youngsters in and outside school in Balderton gained the support of the parish council yesterday.

Members of the finance and general purposes committee agreed to give £1,500 to the project. It is hoped a youth worker will be in place by September.

Captain Tim Justice, of Newark Salvation Army, told the meeting the idea of the project had come about after discussions with the Vicar of Balderton, Canon Tony Tucker.

He said the intention was to employ someone who would work with young people within The Grove School, Balderton, but also build up links with the community and work with young people outside school hours.
