Grove squash club in Newark had a strong season on the court as their teams beat some of the best in Nottinghamshire and beyond
It has been a productive period for Grove Squash Club as they have managed to achieve several milestones this season.
Their first team finished top of division two as they won the competition by eight points.
They only lost two of their matches and won the title after defeating their club's second team in the final match of the campaign with a 5-0 victory.
There was further good news with the return of last year's number one player Chris Gibbons coming back after a long recovery from injury.
The individual rankings saw five of the team in the top ten showcasing the consistency of the club's ability.
The 2nds were always going to find things difficult in the same division as the 1sts and injuries to key players played a major part in them finishing at the bottom.
The team saved their best performance to the penultimate game against Loughborough Students 2nds as they won4-1 with victories for Paul Breffitt, Clive West, Ashley Brooks, and Richard Wilson.
West finished the highest player in the individual rankings for the side.
The third team in Division Five won four out of their final five matches to finish third, but due to a league restructure ended up being promoted. Their final game was a fine 4-1 win away against Grantham 3rds with Andy Sayers, Matt Connor, Adam Whitney, and Ben Taylor picking up individual wins.
In the individual rankings, both Richard Wilson and Matt Connor finished in the top-ten placings.
Another highlight was 13-year-old Eli DeAngelis winning his debut match for the 3rds with a 3-1 win in the match against Grantham 4ths.
The 4ths in Division Six finished fourth but were only three points off second place and promotion.
It all came down to the final game away against Portland which they had to win but ended up losing a tight match 3-2.
Things could have been different if number one seed Brett DeAngelis hadn’t been injured in his first set, but there were wins for Mark Beedham and Jamie Growden in the fixture.
In the individual rankings Paul Nolan finished top for the season and John Limb sixth.
The fifth team who play in division seven finished third winning their last four matches as they came home strong.
The team has used a total of nine players made up of ladies, club night players, and four of the club’s juniors giving the chance for players to sample team squash.
Their final victory came at home against Sutton 3rds with wins for Brett DeAngelis, Susan Tate, Ross Meridith, and Max James.
Brett DeAngelis finished as the fourth best individual in the competition.
The next set of leagues begins at the end of January with the County Cup matches ahead of them.
