A quiet weekend in the rugby as many teams have a rest period
Newark Rugby Club’s first team will return to action this Saturday, at Kelham Road, hosting Moseley Oak (kick-off 2.15pm).
The team will resume after a week’s break from league action following a successful period of three wins and a draw in their last five matches.
This improved form is in contrast to the early weeks of the season when Newark lost their first three league games.
The only Newark team to play last weekend was the club’s Colts squad, who won 40-5 at Syston.
For the Newarkers, it avenged the previous week’s trip to Leicestershire when they lost 17-0 at Leicester Forest.
This time Newark were always in charge following two first-half tries from Nathan Leeson and Joe Doubell.
Newark continued on the attack after the break and further tries came from Noah Marshall, Riley Anderson, Calum Rush, and Johno Armstrong who also kicked five conversions.
The Colts are back in action this Saturday, at home to Derby (kick-off 2pm) while the Newark 2nds travel to Cleethorpes for a league game.
Southwell 1sts rested on the weekend and will take on Ilkeston at home on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
The Southwell 2nds also rested and will take on East Leake at home on Saturday (kick-off 2pm).
The Southwell 3rd Bandits took on Nottingham Moderns in a friendly going down 52-26.
Southwell Colts won 34-15 against Market Rasen and Louth.
Southwell’s under-15s had a milestone of a match as they put 59 points unanswered on the scoreboard against Mellish.
The victory makes it seven in a row for the junior side.
