Newark athlete Amy Hunt has taken the first step towards Olympic glory.

They stormed to a heat win ahead of runners-up France and reigning Olympic champions Jamaica who took third spot.

The Great Britain team are now through to the final on Friday evening where they are expected to lock horns with America in the race for the gold medal.

The Americans won their heat despite a less-than-perfect change-over during their race where they finished ahead of Germany after a strong final leg.

It is the first Olympic Games for Hunt who won her first senior gold as part of the Great Britain women's 4x100m team at the 2024 European Championships before finishing second in the 100m at the 2024 British Athletics Championships in Manchester.

The 22-year-old has also previously won gold medals in the 200m and 4x100m at the European Under-20 Championships.
