Newark Castle Archer's chairwoman Mandie Elson makes club history at British Barebow Indoor Championship 2019

For the first time in Newark Castle Archer’s history, an archer competed at the British Barebow Indoor Championship 2019.

Mandie Elson, from the club, was one of the star performers in 2019, earning a spot to compete at the championships.

Having only ventured into longer outdoor distances at the start of the year, Elson said she was happy with her performance.

“I was shooting with 32 others, all of whom were shooting to get in the top three along with the other venues around the British isles.

“I shot okay, but needed to up my shooting as I’m now with the best of the best in Barebow.

“It made me realise that with some coaching I have the ability to be up there in the future.

“This is all still very new to me, so I can’t be too harsh on myself.”

Elson saw major success in 2019, earning qualification with a county shoot win, as well as representing Nottinghamshire at county events.

The national competition has more than 200 archers taking part across the country, with three qualifying from each event depending on the scores.

Archery GB are yet to reveal the results.

“I was happy to have taken part and experience such a big competition and represent my club and sponsor KG Archery, of Walesby,” said Elson.
