Balderton Cricket Club are beaten by Mansfield Hosiery Mills in the Nottinghamshire Premier League




Balderton are 10 points adrift at the top of the Nottinghamshire Premier League Division Two table after their 11th defeat of the season on Saturday.

They went down by seven wickets against Mansfield Hosiery Mills while second-from-bottom Thoresby Colliery extended their advantage over Balderton with victory at Gedling Colliery.

Balderton had been put into bat on Saturday after losing the toss in a rain-affected match that saw their innings eventually reduced to 40 overs.

Seth Roberts (24) and Shalith Fernando (32) were the mainstays at the top of the innings before Jamie Gilbertson (21), Joe Attewell (27) and Chris Dobbie (25) chipped in at the middle of the order as Balderton closed on 194-9.

The visitors were set a revised target of 201 from their 40 overs under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method.

They were soon reduced to 27-2 as Alex Dickinson picked up the wickets of Rayhan Don and Mark Smallwood.

However, this brought Charana Nanayakkara out to the crease to join opener Kamal Manek and they took the game away from Balderton.

The Hosiery Mills duo put on 125 runs for the third wicket until Nanayakkara was caught by Fernando off Dickinson for 70.

Manek continued to stand strong and he guided the Mansfield visitors to victory with an unbeaten 86 as they secured the win with more than five overs to spare.

Balderton face a tough trip to second-placed Clifton Village on Saturday.

The second team match at Benegal United in Division F of the South Nottinghamshire League was reduced to 20 overs with the hosts taking the honours after a 14-run victory.

Ben Hall had taken 2-28 from his five overs as Benegal posted 135-6 with Md Ferdous top-scoring with 48.

Paul Colcomb led the Balderton reply as he cracked two fours and three sixes in his 33 off just 16 deliveries.

Alan Jackson also added 32 after opener Sam Ross had made 27 as Balderton's run chase fell just short on 121-6.
