County champions clash and the Blue Stripe Derby sees a clear winner in the United Counties League Easter Monday Double header in Nottinghamshire




Beautiful weather greeted groundhoppers in Nottinghamshire as the United Counties League Easter Monday double header event took place earlier today (Monday, April 1).

A crowd of 293 gathered at Station Road Collingham for the first match of the day which saw a 12.30pm kick-off in the step five Premier Division North fixture.

Current Lincolnshire County Cup champion’s Lincoln United made the journey to play Newark and Sherwood United who were the county cup champions of Nottinghamshire last season.

Fresh off a 2-2 FA Vase semi-final match on Saturday, the Whites decided to rest several of their players against the hosts.

The Highwaymen took full advantage of the opportunity and took the full three points with a 4-0 victory.

Punters then travelled to Brinkley in Southwell for The Blue Stripe Derby, a match between Jonny Upton’s Southwell City Zebras and Newark Town Blues which kicked off at 4pm.

The match saw Luke Parsons men win by a commanding 3-0 score line.

The step six,Division One fixture saw another good sized crowd turn up to watch the fixture which saw Newark Town continue to push for play-off contention.

The day was organised by the league to offer two games of competitive football at a discounted price for fans.
