Newark Town Football Club sides get big wins on the road while Southwell City get mixed results

A football team turned around a disappointing result the week before as Newark Town achieved a 5-0 win against Ashfordby on the road.

Luke Parsons' side had suffered a surprising 4-0 defeat against Leicester St Andrew's but they turned it around in a performance that saw five individual goal-scorers.

Goals were scored by Luke Andersen, Lewis Chambers, Harvey Grice, Mark Faflik, and Tyler Smith.

Southwell City had mixed results in their last two games, seen here against Blackstones in their 1-0 defeat.

The win moves the side up into third on the United Counties League Division One table and sees The Blues firmly in playoff contention.

"It was chalk and cheese from last week," said Parsons.

"The tempo, endeavour, commitment, and hunger were so much better this time.

"The first ten minutes we raced into a two-goal lead.

"We then started to control the game and recycled the ball to keep a hold of possession.

"In the second-half we bagged more goals and from then the game was won."

The team will now welcome Sandiacre Town to the YMCA on Saturday, (kick-off 3pm).

The club also announced that recent addition, goalkeeper Theo Avery-Brown has had his loan extended from Nottingham Forest until the end of the season.

In the same league as Newark Town, Southwell City first played on Saturday, narrowly losing 1-0 to a strong Blackstones side.

The Zebras followed it up on Tuesday with a point secured as they drew 1-1 against Clifton.

Missing several key players, Jonny Upton's side were trailing 1-0 from the 65th minute until substitute Alexander Cook managed to equalise in the dying stages of the game.

Southwell will now host Holwell Sports on Saturday, (kick-off 3pm).

Newark Town Ladies secured a dominant 5-2 win over Radcliffe in the Nottinghamshire Girls and Ladies Football League.

The Blue Army travelled to their opposition for the fixture and turned on a spectacle of goals for the fans that followed them.

The first and last goals by the home side were not enough to cause Newark any problems.
