South Nottinghamshire Cricket League Division D: Southwell’s Mark Bowie takes 8-44 in first win of the summer
Mark Bowie took eight wickets as Southwell 1sts posted their first win of the season in South Nottinghamshire Cricket League Division D.
Bowie picked up 8-44 in 10 overs as he ripped through the Wollaton 3rds batting line-up.
Chasing 129 for victory, Wollaton were bowled out for just 69 in the 20th over. David Rimmer picked up the two other wickets to finish with figures of 2-7.
Bowie and Rimmer had earlier led the way with the bat after skipper Jonathan Butler won the toss.
Bowie hit five fours in his 24 while Rimmer made 34 with five boundaries before he was bowled by Owen Macdonald. Jim Scott (14) also reached double figures while 28 extras ensured a total of 128 all out in 29.1 overs.
Macdonald finished with 6-28 in eight overs and Faisal Ayub took 2-33 for Wollaton.
In the same division, it was a tense finale for Farndon 1sts, who won by one wicket at home to Soar Valley in another low-scoring contest.
Valley were put into bat and dismissed for 136 in 29 overs with Farndon reaching 138-9 in the 31st over.
After reaching 49-1, Valley were indebted to 47 not out by Simon Oakley as wickets tumbled at regular intervals.
John Esam was the pick of the attack with 4-21 in six overs while Charlie Thorpe (2-33) and Jack Swallow (2-31) took two wickets apiece.
Ian Robinson went for a golden duck but skipper Martyn Hill (27) and Alex Youngman (22) restored calm at the top of the order. Andrew Lamb also made 27 but three wickets for the addition of just one run saw Farndon slip from 113-6 to 114-9.
Last pair Nathan Oldbury and Dan Collington needed 24 runs to win and they managed to get their side across the line. Oldbury finished with 12 not out and Collington was unbeaten on nine.
Oakley was the pick of the Valley bowlers with 5-39 in 12 overs.
On a day of close finishes, Farndon 2nds also triumphed by one wicket in their Division J game at Gotham Village 2nds.
Last-man Freddy Clark didn’t score a run but he survived eight balls as Mark Everington’s 35 not out ensured Farndon got across the line.
They had looked in control, chasing 197 to win having reached 93-3 and then 161-6 after Toby Adwick made 58, Joss Martin added 25 and David Adwick scored 45 off just 30 balls with four sixes in his innings. It was then down to Everington to get his team home.
In Division K, Southwell 2nds were beaten by leaders Caythorpe 4ths by four wickets.
Opener David Boothroyd scored 61 before he was run out as Southwell were all out for 128 in 35 overs. Danny Miller also contributed 26 while Sam Lane took 4-14 in six overs.
In reply, Joshua Ingram (2-40), David Boothroyd (2-27) and Alexander Ingram (2-17) all took two wickets each but Caythorpe were always in control as they reached 129-6 in 26 overs.
Sid Sharma scored an unbeaten half-century as Newark Ransome & Marles 1sts raced to victory on Saturday.
They defeated hosts Bingham 1sts by seven wickets in South Nottinghamshire Cricket League Division C.
Set a modest 121 for victory, Newark wasted little time in reaching their victory target as they completed the chase inside 25 overs.
Sharma made light work of losing opening partner Jimmy Munroe for two by scoring 76 not out. He put on 64 for the second wicket with Raj Mohankumar (22) before James Anderson joined Sharma to finish off the victory.
Earlier, Matthew Evans picked up four lower-order wickets as Newark dismissed Bingham for just 120 in the 30th over.
An early wicket apiece for Bhuvanesh Sankaran and Sonu Charley (2-46) soon reduced Bingham to 7-2 and despite skipper Louis Hartland resisting with a quickfire 25 they then slipped from 39-2 to 42-5.
Matt Spencer staged another recovery with 20 but Evans came into the attack to finish off the innings.
Evans picked up 4-10 in six overs while Sankaran finished with 3-29 in 10 overs.
Newark Ransome & Marles 2nds ensured it was a club double by defeating Bingham 2nds by 61 runs in Division H.
Opting to bat first, Newark were indebted to 39 from Sadeeshbabu Gnanadesigan and Viney Sureddi’s 27. Matthew Fiddes added 20 and Craig Drury’s 22 not out ensured they reached 163 all out in 38 overs.
Tom Campbell was the pick of the Bingham bowling attack with 4-23 while Charlie Dyer weighed in with 3-33.
Bingham were reduced to 4-3 against the new-ball pairing of Manmohan Patil and Luc Chignell. From 37-5, it needed 21 by Luke Byrne and 34 not out from Matt Colbourn to ensure they reached 102 when they were bowled out in the 36th over.
Patil was the most successful bowler with figures of 3-16, Chignell finished with 2-22, Drury took 2-33 and Mitchell Doney returned 2-6 in 10 balls late on.
In Division M, the 3rds were beaten by 61 runs at home to Lowdham 2nds.
Ryan Walker took 2-31 with the ball but Lowdham posted 196-5 in 36 overs thanks to opener Craig Hembury’s 53. There were also contributions from Cameron Davidson (30), Ben Markham (33) and Nathan Sutton (39 not out).
Only two players reached double figures in Newark’s reply but they nearly got their side over the line.
Jake Harling was eventually out for 88 while Munish Manocha added a creditable 32 batting at seven. Markham (3-36) and Hembury (3-33) were the pick of the Lowdham attack.
