Club captain Jamie Goddard back for Newark and Sherwood United after being out for 536 days with an ACL injury

A club captain – who has been out of action for 536 days due to an ACL injury – sealed a dream return to action with a victory.

Jamie Goddard took to the field for the first time in 17 months as he appeared for Newark and Sherwood United on Tuesday night – and his return match saw The Highwaymen seal a 2-0 victory on the road against Pinchbeck.

“It has been a long time coming but I am buzzing to be back,” said Goddard after the match.

Goddard came off the bench in the second-half, playing for over half an hour for his club on his return.

He has been an ever present fixture in the dug out for his club after being injured as he has watched his team from the sidelines.

He added: “The most important thing and I know it is cliched is that we sealed with a win.

“We can hopefully go on against Deeping on Saturday and get a run together.

“We want to pick some points up, the lads are working hard in training.”
