Newark Rugby Club goes down 33-26 against Peterborough in Papa John's Community Cup
Newark Rugby Club 1st team went down 33-26 in the first round of the Papa John's Community Cup against a powerful Peterborough Rugby Club side.
Despite Newark producing devastating pace at times, it was not enough to pip a strong Peterborough team in the first round of the RFU knock-out competition.
Peterborough proved too powerful upfront and took an early lead through two tries for a 14-0 advantage in the Papa John’s Community Cup 1st round.
That scoreline looked to be the half-time mark until Newark struck in the final moments, fly half Potene Rolls-Paewai skilfully working captain Will Britten through a narrow gap for a much needed score.
Peterborough started the second half on the attack and crossed for the third time to extend their lead to 19-5.
Winger Scott Edmed then crossed for Newark before Peterborough used their forward power to gain a fourth try.
Substitute flanker Alex Tuscher, on break from Leeds University, dashed clear twice in between a further try from Peterborough occurred before the final whistle.
In their Papa John's Community Cup game, Southwell Rugby Club 1st's went down 38-7 against an impressive West Leeds side as Southwell travelled away to Yorkshire for the match.
