Collingham Cricket Club round-up

Collingham suffered a rare defeat as the runs flowed in their Nottinghamshire Premier League Division Two clash with Mansfield Hosiery Mills on Saturday.

More than 610 runs were scored at Dale Field with three players hitting centuries as Collingham eventually fell to their third league loss of the season.

The visiting Mansfield side had elected to bat first after winning the toss with Collingham making an early breakthrough when Chris Morris ran out Rayhan Don with Hosiery Mills yet to score.

However, that bright start soon faded as the Mansfield batsmen took centre stage to leave Collingham with a long afternoon in the field.

A 125-run stand for the second wicket followed before home captain Burhan Alam made the breakthrough when he bowled Kamal Manek for 54.

However, that only brought brief respite for the home side as Charana Nanayakkara came out to join Mark Smallwood to continue the onslaught.

They added another 76 runs for the next wicket until Smallwood was caught and bowled by John Miller for an excellent 107 which featured 15 fours and a six.

Mansfield maintained their momentum despite the skipper's departure with Ranitha Liyanarachchi joining Nanayakkara at the crease.

They had an unbroken stand of 127 runs for the fourth wicket as Hosiery Mills closed their 50 overs on an imposing 329-3.

Nanayakkara struck seven fours and five sixes in his 105 not out while Liyanarachchi was unbeaten on 54 at the close.

Collingham lost their opening pair of Morris and Joe Saxelby cheaply as they found themselves on 9-2.

A 66-run stand followed between Ben Jones and Umer Waheed until the former fell for 32 as Kamal Manek claimed the first of his three wickets.

Skipper Alam came out to join Waheed and they added another 98 runs for the next wicket until the Collingham captain fell for 46.

Jack Copley made just seven before he departed which brought Ashton Fell to the crease with the free-scoring Waheed.

They added 79 runs for the sixth wicket until Hosiery Mills claimed the all-important wicket of Waheed.

The Pakistani ace had smashed 16 fours and two sixes to finish with the game's top score of 147 before he was caught by Jacob Catling off the bowling of Nanayakkara.

Fell added a further 33 runs to the Collingham total as they closed their 50 overs on 286-9 which was 43 runs short of the target.

Despite the defeat, Collingham still remain in control of the title race and have a 14-point advantage over second-placed Clifton Village who they travel to face on Saturday.

Collingham 2nds moved up into third spot in Division C of the South Nottinghamshire League after leapfrogging Gotham Village following Saturday's meeting of the two teams.

An impressive spell of 5-30 from seven overs by Wilf Wright was backed up by Louis Carver who claimed 3-18 as Gotham were bowled out for 134.

Jacob Caveney then led Collingham's victory charge with a half-century as the five-wicket win was secured in the 31st over.

There was a club record partnership in the third team's victory over over Newark Ransome & Marles 3rds in Division L.

Openers Tom Mason and Oliver Wilcox scored 203 runs as Collingham cruised to a 108-run win over their neighbours.

Mason reached his ton before retiring not out while Wilcox was on 97 when he was caught by Matthew Andrew off the bowling of Gary Andrew as Collingham closed their 36 overs on 236-2.

Stephen Allman hit an unbeaten half-century in the Newark reply but they were dismissed for 128 as youngsters Harry Geeson grabbed 4-20 with Lewis Biggin bagging 3-21 for the victorious Collingham side.
