Newark Town 6-1AFC Bentley: Town torment broken Bentley in Central Midlands League Cup
There were hat-tricks for Marlon Grundy and Lewis Chambers as Newark Town completed back-to-back wins against AFC Bentley on Saturday.
The 1-0 win in the Central Midlands League North Division last Saturday was followed up by a much more convincing performance in the League Cup.
Grundy put the Blues in front on 27 minutes, before Brad Vann equalised four minutes later.
It looked as if it would be another tricky day for Town going into the break, but on 55 minutes Grundy got his second and Chambers made it three ten minutes later.
The game was then moved out of sight as the forwards completed their respective hat-tricks in the final ten minutes.
Grundy netting in stoppage time, while Chambers scored on 82 and 84 minutes.
Ollerton Town Reserves were knocked out of the cup after losing 3-1 to the higher-ranked Thorne Colliery.
Austin Henry’s brace put the hosts ahead before Curtis Mann made it three.
Oliver Case scored Ollerton’s late consolation.
Collingham and St Josephs Rockware shared the goals and the points in the former’s first home league game.
Jake Morrison and Archie Richardson were Collingham’s scorers.
Newark FC 2-1 Gresley Rovers
A Nathan Stainfield header in the 84th minute secured the points for Newark on Tuesday night.
Newark took the lead in the ninth minute when Ben Hutchinson won the ball in the visitors’ box and quickly played a square pass to strike partner Craig Westcarr, who finished into an unguarded net.
The Highwaymen were then punished having failed to get a second when Paul Sullivan’s 74th minute strike beat Jason White.
But the 100% run remained intact when Stainfield headed home from a free-kick.
