Nottinghamshire Premier League: Collingham & District beat Kimberley Institute by one wicket as Rhett Bridgens shines with bat and ball
Collingham & District claimed another high-profile scalp in the Nottinghamshire Premier League on Saturday.
Rhett Bridgens played a key role with bat and ball as Collingham held their nerve to claim a one-wicket win with four balls to spare over Kimberley Institute.
Having invited the visitors to bat first, Collingham made early inroads as they reduced Kimberley Institute to 22-3 and 42-4 with wickets for Adam Mendham (2-24) and Liam Tew (2-31).
Ross Whiteley’s 30 and Oliver Tewatiya’s 50 led the recovery while skipper Alex King added 28 as Kimberley Institute reached 186 all out in the 48th over. Bridgens took 3-34 with a wicket apiece for John Miller and Abdul Basit.
Collingham had solid contributions throughout the top order with Ross Taylor (14), Pranav Pothula (21) and skipper Burhan Alam (20) all getting starts.
Jamal Anwar (40) joined opener Ben Jones and Collingham looked on course for a comfortable win at 167-3 with 12 overs remaining. But Anwar’s dismissal was the first of six wickets for just eight runs. That left the last pairing of Jones and no.11 Bridgens needing 12 more runs to see their side home.
They took nearly six overs to get there but Bridgens finished unbeaten on eight from 19 balls and Jones batted over three hours for his 76 not out as Collingham reached 189-9 in the final over. George Scottorn was the pick of the Kimberley Institute attack with 4-28 in 10 overs.
Collingham & District 2nds overcame Ruddington 1sts by 33 runs in Division C of the South Notts League.
Opener Sumit Puri scored 41 and Jacob Caveney top-scored with 84 for Collingham as they posted 232-7, boosted by Cameron Marriott’s 30 not out off 35 balls.
Ruddington put on 53 for the first wicket but then lost wickets at regular intervals as they were bowled out for 199.
Kafeel Rasul (80) provided the resistance but Ruddington had no answer to Puri (3-38) and Matt Taylor (4-31).
As the 3rds were without a game, it was down to the 4ths to complete a hat-trick of wins for Collingham as they defeated Oxton 2nds by five wickets in Division N.
Jon Spencer took 2-9 in seven overs, Dan Watford picked up 3-25 and Gary Clark took 2-19 as Oxton were restricted to 180 all out, Kurt Wilson top-scoring with 46.
Clark then impressed with the bat, scoring 64 as Collingham reached 181-5 in the 27th over. Tony Williams added 45 and Max Clayton made 28.
