Collingham & District end Nottinghamshire Premier League leaders’ 100 per cent record

Collingham & District 1sts stunned Nottinghamshire Premier League leaders Cavaliers & Carrington on Saturday.

The hosts boasted a 100 per cent record at the top of the table, having won nine out of nine, and were firm favourites against a Collingham side who lost six in a row before beating Notts & Arnold last week.

Captain Burhan Alam described the match as a free hit and his team pulled off a memorable two-wicket victory - their best result since promotion back to the top flight this season.

Cavaliers & Carrington chose to bat after winning the toss but an inspired bowling display saw them slip to 132 all out in 33.1 overs.

Rhett Bridgens was the chief destroyer, claiming 5-29, while opener bowler Liam Tew took 2-28.

Collingham were 21-2 in reply but stuck to the task and it was skipper Alam who top-scored, making 40 off 49 balls with three fours and two sixes.

Pranav Pothula played a different type of innings to see them over the line, digging in with an unbeaten 18 off 85 balls.

A late abandonment denied Balderton 1sts certain victory in Division A of the South Nottinghamshire League.

They needed only seven runs to win from the final four overs at second-placed Wollaton 2nds when the umpires called a halt, citing the weather and a lack of time, according to Balderton.

“With numerous events taking place throughout the game which delayed play multiple times, the decision to abandon the game piles on more frustration and disappointment,” the club added.

Wollaton closed 50 overs on an imposing total of 300-9, Aaron Charlesworth claiming 3-35 and Alex Dickinson 3-58.

Brilliant batting left Balderton on the brink of victory, led by Shalith Fernando, who scored an unbeaten 107 off 88 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes.

Charle Neshaharan fell just seven runs short of a century and skipper Ryan Charlesworth made 55 as Balderton reached 294-2 before the abandonment.

Collingham & District 2nds continued their fine season at the top of Division C with a five-wicket success over Basford Mill.

Harry Geeson broke an opening stand of 25 while Samuel Derry (2-25) and Will Hillman (2-23) bowled well as Basford were held to 190-7.

David Pipes (29) and Matt Taylor (26) put on 59 for the first wicket as the Collingham reply started brightly.

Jacob Caveney secured victory with an unbeaten 50 off 58 balls, including six boundaries, while Cameron Marriott hit a quickfire 20 not out from 13.

Balderton 2nds claimed their first Division G victory of the season in emphatic fashion, beating Gedling Colliery by 127 runs.

Alan Jackson top-scored with 58 off 71 balls, hitting five fours and six, while Stuart Lees made 37 as Balderton reached 212-7.

The bowlers then took charge with Matthew Gleadell returning superb figures of 3-2 in 6.5 overs and Andrew Dell 4-15 as Gedling were skittled for 85.
