Collingham & District fall to sixth successive defeat in the Nottinghamshire Premier League during May after losing by 33 runs at Papplewick and Linby
Collingham & District completed a miserable May in the Nottinghamshire Premier League by suffering a sixth successive defeat on Saturday.
They lost by 33 runs at Papplewick and Linby, a slow start giving Collingham too much to do as they chased down the hosts’ imposing 284-3.
John Miller picked up the early wicket of opener Dalton Hatton Lowe for 27 but Papplewick then enjoyed a second-wicket partnership of 194 between opener Callum McKenzie and Ben Shaw.
Both players went on to make hundreds. McKenzie hit 112 in 133 balls before he was dismissed by Liam Tew.
Sam Watson (19) fell cheaply to Adam Mendham but Shaw finished 113 not out from 127 balls as Papplewick posted 284-3 in 50 overs.
Collingham lost opener Charlie Dixon for two and found runs hard to come by as they only reached 64-2 when Jamal Anwar departed for 28 in the 22nd over.
Skipper Burhan Alam pressed the accelerator with four sixes and five balls as he struck 71 off just 54 balls.
Ben Jones (62) also hit a half-century but when Alam departed, Collingham still needed more than 100 to win in less than 10 overs with just four wickets left.
They made a spirited effort, though, thanks to 30 off 27 balls from Abdul Basit and Adam Mendham’s quickfire 25, closing on 251-9 in 50 overs. Luke Fletcher took 2-10 in 9.1 overs while Lowe picked up 4-53 in 6.5 overs.
Balderton 1sts lost by 106 runs at Hucknall 2nds in Division A of the South Nottinghamshire Cricket League.
A half-century by Aaron Simpson (67) plus 39 from both Richard Greatorex and Ozan Williams saw Hucknall reach 239.
Tom Anderson took 3-46, Chale Neshaharan picked up 3-41 and Aaron Charlesworth bagged 2-38 for Balderton.
The reply lasted less than 33 overs with Balderton all out for 133, a total that included 30 wides.
Only Shalith Fernando (46) and Phil Gregory (31 not out) reached double figures with the bat, Jack Richardson picking up 4-37.
Collingham 2nds sit 10 points clear at the top of Division C following their 43-run victory over Burton Joyce Lions.
Tom Wheldon took centre stage with an unbeaten 115, an innings which included 11 fours and three sixes. It was a much-needed knock as Collingham were struggling at 51-4 and 84-5. Will Wright provided solid support with 20 as the pair put on 89 for the sixth wicket.
Collingham posted 212-7 in 45 overs, Oliver Price taking 4-53 and Dilber Kahlon picking up 3-39.
In Division G, Balderton 2nds lost a fifth successive game as they were beaten by 40 runs at home to bottom side Long Eaton 2nds.
The visitors posted 187-7 in 40 overs after being invited to bat first but Balderton could only reach 147 all out in reply.
