St Peter’s Cross Keys Church of England Academy and Barnby Road Academy compete at Year Six Cricket Competition
County school cricket champions take runners-up spot at ‘epic rollercoaster’ regional finals.
After winning both district and county championships the year six cricket team at St Peter’s Cross Keys Church of England Academy secured their spot in the East Midlands Regional Finals.
Farndon took on five other schools from three East Midlands counties at the regional final at Notts & Arnold Amateur Cricket Club in Nottingham.
The six teams included St Peter’s Cross Keys Church of England Academy and Barnby Road Academy from Nottinghamshire, Tower Road Academy and Malcolm Sargent Primary School in Lincolnshire and Uppingham School and Merrydale Junior School in Leicestershire.
The County champions got off to a great start with back-to-back wins over Uppingham and Malcolm Sergeant.
The last game before lunch pitted Farndon and Merrydale, the only two teams so far to win back-to-back games.
Farndon batted well against a formidable Merrydale attack but lost in a close match.
After lunch, the year six team played back-to-back games against Barby Road and Tower Road, achieving a win of four out of five games played.
Nick Rhodes-Yeomans the sports coach at St Peter's said: "Merrydale had gone on to also win back to back after lunch which meant St Peter's Farndon were runners up in the 2024 Regional Year Six Cricket Finals, an epic rollercoaster, a tremendous achievement for the school and Newark and Sherwood District schools sports.
“We could not be prouder of all the children who represent our school in all of our sports and to this group of cricketers who have given their all in 3 competitions, losing only 1 match to the now Regional Champions, I am so proud.”
