Farnsfield Cricket Club celebrate season of success in the Bassetlaw and District Cricket League Championship Division, the Mallen Cup T20 and the ECB Vitality T20 Plate
It’s been an outstanding season for Farnsfield Cricket Club - with a national title still up for grabs.
The 1st XI not only finished runners-up in the Bassetlaw and District Cricket League Championship Division - for the fourth year running - but they also won the Mallen Cup T20.
This entitled them to enter the northern regional legs of the ECB Vitality T20 Plate as league representatives.
Progressing through the rounds, they beat Sprotborough CC (Yorkshire) and Preston CC (Lancs) before defeating Morpeth (Northumbria and North Tyneside) in an exciting final.
Farnsfield CC were due to play southern champions Waltham CC in the ECB Vitality T20 Plate national final at the beginning of September but rain intervened with only three overs bowled. It will be replayed early next season.
All other sections of Farnsfield CC achieved success this year. The 2nd XI consolidated their new position in a higher division and the 3rd XI finished in third place following promotion.
The junior section were very competitive and, most notably, the under-10 team won their league.
The women and girls, in only their third year and first playing Super 8 Hardball, finished runners-up in their hardball division.
The softball team also competed commendably, finishing mid-table and having given many novices to the game their first experience of competitive cricket.
