Newark AC’s Ed Buck wins cross-country gold in Nottinghamshire and George Hatton repeats the feat 24 hours later in Lincolnshire
Newark AC are celebrating senior cross country champions across two counties at the weekend.
The Nottinghamshire Cross Country Championships on Saturday were held at Shipley Park in Heanor.
Newark’s Ed Buck was crowned county champion after running nearly a minute faster than second place.
Dan Dunnington came 18th, Leigh Marshall 23rd, Dave Robinson 29th, Tim Bagguley 31st, Ady Dix 38th, Lewis Hopkinson 43rd and Lee Braithwaite 67th as Newark won team bronze.
Marshall also got a bronze medal in the V45-54 category.
Jazz Braithwaite gained bronze in the under-17 girls’ race after finishing third.
There was a silver for Robin Overbury in the under-11 girls’ race with Isabella Johnston also imperssing.
The under-11 boys won team gold after Rory Adwick won individual gold and Joshua White won bronze, with debutant Liam Bobby producing a strong run to complete their line-up.
The under-13 boys saw Eddie Greenhow continue his fine form to come home third and secure the bronze medal.
The under-15 boys saw Reuben Shivas and Ethan Cooper run well on a muddy course but narrowly miss out on top 10 finishes.
GB triathlete Olivia Mathias gave her Newark AC vest an outing and won a silver medal at the Leicestershire Cross Country Championships.
Newark AC won all the medals in the men’s senior race on Sunday at the Lincolnshire Cross Country Championships in Biscathorpe.
George Hatton became their second county champion in two days with Conor Pacey taking silver and Marcus Chesterton bronze. Newark also had Leigh Marshall (fifth), Rob Lindsey (sixth) and Chris Harrison in the top 10.
It was a superb weekend of running by Marshall, who finished as the top vet runner in the Lincs race after medalling in the Notts race less than 24 hours before.
The top six of each race can represent their county at the inter-counties championships in March.
Elliot Smith-Rasmussen ran at the Podium 5k in Battersea Park on New Year’s Eve, setting off a bit too fast he was a little disappointed with his time of 14min28sec which earned him 13th place. A sub-14 minute 5k is in sight, though!
Marshall had finished off the year by racing in the Buntingford 10 miler.
The race incorporated the British Masters Athletics Federation 10 mile Road Championships with Marshall’s time of 57.42 enough for 17th place, second in his age category and the British Masters silver medal.
