Exciting play in district rugby with good results for Newark, Southwell, Bingham and Ollerton




IT was a case of two out of three wins for the Southwell Rugby Club with their first and seconds team getting up while their beloved thirds - the Bandits suffered a close defeat.

The 1st team got a well-deserved 20-11 victory over Market Rasen and Louth at home.

Andy Powell's team showed great heart to keep the visitors at bay with Conor Pearson setting up a lovely try for team captain George Machin.

The 2nd's won 17-10 against a tough Ollerton 1st side, both teams showed they were capable of getting points on the board in the tight affair.

Ollerton got revenge against the Southwell 3rd's as the bandits fell short by a scoreline of 37-28 at Ollerton Rugby Club. Jake Townsend was awarded man of the match honours for Ollerton.

Newark's 2nd XV had another good win as they secured a 67-28 victory over Nottinghamians.

They will now play at Ollerton on Saturday (kick-off 2:15pm).

Bingham Rugby Club's 1st team showed why they are on the top of their league table after a thrilling 29-0 victory over Nottingham Modern's 2nd team.

All three senior Southwell sides will travel away for their fixtures this Saturday.

The 1st team will be at Coalville (kick-off 2:15pm)

Sleaford will host the 2nd's (kick-off 2:15 pm) and the Bandits will travel to Paviors to play their 3rd side (kick-off 1:30pm).
