Two district clubs contest the Prima Tigers Cup at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium before the Leicester Tigers versus Bath rugby union game




Under-10 teams from Bingham and Southwell Rugby Clubs got to experience being in front of 22,000 people at Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium as part of the Prima Tigers Cup competition.

The final took place at the home of Leicester Tigers and the youngsters played four games as part of the final eight clubs.

It was a great achievement from both clubs who got down to the final few out of an initial 80 teams.

After their matches they got to watch Leicester take on Bath at the stadium.

In district senior rugby, Andy Powell’s Southwell 1sts got a dominating win on the board as they beat Ashbourne 36-15.

Newark’s 2nds had their match at Mansfield abandoned due to poor weather.

They will now take on fellow district side Ollerton in their clash at Kelham Road this Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Newark Rugby Club will play host to a primary school’s carnival next Thursday afternoon which will see children from all across the district participate.

Southwell 2nds got a walk-over win over Meden Vale while the 3rds, known as The Bandits, contested a tight local derby against Newark’s 3rds.

Newark walked away with the bragging rights on this occasion after a tight 27-26 fixture that could have gone either way.

Both sides played some excellent attacking rugby in muddy conditions as they put on a good show for the crowd at Kelham Road.

Southwell 1sts will now take on Coalville at home on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).
