Mandie Elson leads the way for Newark Castle Archers in East Midlands Archery Society Thorsby shoot




Mandie Elson is leading the way for Newark Castle Archers after securing the number one spot in a county shoot.

The club’s chairman helped Nottinghamshire finish top in the women’s barebow category at the East Midlands Archery Society Thorsby shoot — a Hereford round which is six dozen arrows shot at 80 yards, four dozen at 60 yards and two dozen at 50 yards.

Elson said she had also enjoyed competing in the clout archery discipline having taken third in the Archery England Clout Championships.

“We didn’t expect to win (the East Mids shoot) as there are some strong barebow archers around the Midlands so it was a lovely surprise,” she said.

“It was a last minute entry as well as our county team manager wasn’t going to submit any teams this year due to covid.

“We had a fight on our hands to turn that decision around but we succeeded.”

The event was hosted by Sherwood Archers in Southwell.
