Fading side falls to defeat
Newark Rugby Club host Derby tomorrow in a league game at Kelham Road following a gallant display in their 44-20 defeat at Old Northamptonians on Saturday.
Saturday was Newarkâs first game for two weeks after missing out the previous week due to frost.
An excellent first half brought Newark a 15-10 lead through tries by wing Jamie Eveleigh and Buddha Waqalevu. Eveleigh added one conversion and a penalty.
When Newark grabbed a third try just after half-time, flanker Will Naylor escaping down the left, they led 20-10 and were hopeful of posting an upset over their fourth-placed opponents.
However, Old Northamptonians dominated the last 30 minutes in which their bigger forwards took charge to engineer four tries.
Newark 3rds battled for the whole 80 minutes at Kelham Road but went down 12-0 to Market Rasen.
Frenchman Amo Lannehoa dominated Newark 4ths 30-24 victory over Ashfield, contributing 19 points through three tries and two conversions.
Despite having the majority of the possession and territory, Southwell 1st XV lost 8-3 to Ashfield.
Southwell 2nd XV had an entirely different match to their 1st XV counterparts as they battled to a 29-10 win over visitors Ilkeston.
