Farndon Cricket Club claim their first win of the summer in Division D of the South Nottinghamshire League




Farndon 1sts claimed their first win of the summer in Division D of the South Nottinghamshire League.

They remain in the bottom two but are off and running after a 54-run success at Wollaton.

The visitors were struggling at 4-2 early on but battled back to close 45 overs on 208-9.

Ian Robinson played the key knock in the middle order with 60 off 100 balls, including 11 fours.

Andrew Lamb took an early wicket to put Wollaton on the back foot.

There were two each for Charlie Thorpe and Rhiannon Knowling-Davies but Dan Collington was the star of the show with 4-32 as the hosts were bowled out for 143.

Farndon 2nds lost to Division J high-fliers Claypole by nine wickets in a low-scoring game.

Opener Samuell Cobb (11) was the only player to reach double figures as Farndon were skittled for 42 in 10.1 overs.

Jack Swallow took the only wicket to fall in reply as second-placed Claypole raced to victory in the ninth over.

Southwell 1sts remain winless at the foot of Division D after a 25-run home defeat by Gedling & Sherwood.

Josh Evans impressed with the ball, finishing with frugal figures of 4-25 in nine overs, while William Johnson (3-37) and Mark Bowie (2-10) also bowled well as Gedling were bowled out for 171.

Southwell lost opener Matt Clarke for 1 but Joe Fryer (32) and captain Jonathan Burler (15) put on 53 before the loss of two quick wickets left them 55-3.

Sam Barber made 28 in the middle order but the last four wickets went down for 12 runs as Southwell fell short on 146 all out.

Southwell 2nds lost to struggling Radcliffe-on-Trent by 42 runs in Division K.

Radcliffe, looking for their first win of the season, closed on 200-5.

Ralph Cook was the leading Southwell bowler with 2-40.

Chris Miller top-scored with 35 off 51 balls in reply, hitting five boundaries, while Chris Stokes offered resistance with 22 off 46.

But the partnership Southwell required eluded them and they were dismissed for 158 from the final ball of the match.
