South Nottinghamshire Cricket League Division D: Southwell 1sts (213) fall short in run chase against Farndon (226-6)

Southwell 1sts came agonisingly close to their first South Nottinghamshire Cricket League Division D victory of the season.

Chasing Farndon’s 226-6, Southwell appeared well placed at 155-2 only to be bowled out for 213 in the 45th over and lose by 13 runs.

Farndon were indebted to opener Ian Robinson’s 105 with Toby Adwick (28) and Alex Youngman (22) also contributing. William Rimmer was the pick of the Southwell attack, taking 3-44 in seven overs.

Southwell openers Thomas Glenn (55) and Rimmer (20) put on 75 for the first wicket before both fell in quick succession.

Skipper Jonathan Butler made 23 and Sam Barber also hit 55 but from 155-2, the wickets started to fall quickly.

Southwell were reduced to 177-7 and even 20 off 21 balls by Ollie Wagstaff was not enough to get them over the line as the pressure told.

Farndon’s Dan Collingham took 3-16 in 4.5 overs while John Esam (2-47) and Adwick (2-57) also made their mark with the ball.

It was a tough day for Farndon 2nds in Division J as they went down by 253 runs at Bottesford.

A remarkable 178 from opener Matt Airey led Bottesford to 318-2, with fellow opener James Donger removed by Kian Simpson for 97.

Skipper Bryn Martin scored 32 in reply but Farndon were all out for 64 in less than 25 overs, with Narendra Ojha taking 5-7 in 7.3 overs with five maidens.

In Division K, Southwell 2nds lost by 57 runs at home to Keyworth 3rds.

Danny Miller took 3-43 and Conor Cheery took 2-38 as Keyworth were restricted to 174-6 in 40 overs.

Chris Miller top scored with 31 in Southwell’s reply but they never recovered from 52-5 and were eventually all out for 117 in the 27th over. Lauren Sleeman (3-22) and Finley Herbison (3-22) were the pick of the bowlers.
